CSA warns JHS graduates, families of results, SHS placement scam

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has identified fraudulent schemes targeting recent Junior High School (JHS) graduates, as well as their friends and family.

In a statement, the Authority advised individuals to be alert and beware of individuals posing as representatives of official educational organizations or claiming to have “inside access” to examination results and placement systems.

These fraudsters are offering to alter Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results or change school placements for a fee.

CSA explained that these individuals are using fake social media profiles and have crafted stories to make their schemes appear legitimate.

CSA has also identified various WhatsApp groups created by the threat actors, with members being recent JHS graduates. The threat actors engage the graduates, claiming to have the ability to alter examination results and change school placements for a fee.

“Once payment is received, the fraudsters cease communication with the victims,”part of the statement read.

Parents and incoming Senior High School (SHS) students are advised to ignore any messages or calls offering to modify exam results, upgrade scores, or change school placements.
