Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen has described the style of governance under President Nana Addo as the most nepotistic in the history of Ghana.
“Akufo-Addo has appointed his daughters, brothers, in-laws, wives, cousins, nieces and nephews to occupy sensitive positions in government. Even Ex-president Kuffuor and Ex-president Mahama did not show such kind of nepotism under their administration”, he said.
Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political show, he specifically mentioned Virginia Hesse, appointed as Ambassador to the Czech Republic; Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister; Duke Ofori Atta as a Presidential Advisor; Nana Asante Bediatuo as Secretary to the President; Kwesi Amoako Ofori Atta as Roads and Highways Minister; Samuel Atta Akyea as Works and Housing Minister and the appointment of Gyankroma Akufo-Addo to the creative arts council as examples of the nepotistic appointments.
According to him, the president’s close relations are not the only qualified set of Ghanaians to occupy such enviable positions.
However, he encouraged Ghanaians to look forward to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) newly introduced press briefing series dubbed, ‘Moment of Truth’ which the party intends to focus on what it terms, ‘Exposing the failed promises of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government.’
