Aduana Stars forward, Yahaya Mohammed, says it will be better to cancel the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League (GPL) if the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has to wait till the ban on sporting activities is lifted on July 31.
President Akufo-Addo in his address on the curb of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic on Sunday 31 May 2020 extended the suspension of social gatherings including sporting activities till July 31.
The current extension has put the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League in limbo as there have been calls for the season to be cancelled and restarted in September in order to synchronize with the European football calendar.

Yahaya Mohammed who earlier urged the GFA to continue with the 2019/20 football season says it will be prudent to end the season if the GFA has to wait till government’s directives on the suspension of football activities are reviewed on July 31.
“The GFA can go to the Sports Ministry or government and propose for players to start training if only they want us to continue with the season. We cannot wait till July ending to begin preparations if we do so then what time will we end the season. In my opinion, if we have to wait till July 31 then it will be better to cancel the season and start a new one”, he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Wamputu Sports on Happy 98.9FM

He further said, if the GFA still has plans to continue the season then a proposal should be sent to the government to allow teams to begin training.
“The GFA can go to the Sports Ministry or government and propose for players to start training if only they want us to continue with the season. We cannot wait till July ending to begin preparations if we do so then what time will we continue with the league”.
“The players are also suffering because now we cannot go to the club owners for money. Their businesses have been affected by the Covid-19 and now they can pay us our salaries only if they have”, he added.
The 2019/20 Ghana Premier League has been suspended since March this year.
