COVID-19 Stimulus package: Football clubs were not considered- NBSSI

The Ghana Football Association hopes of getting some relief funds from government’s $600 million stimulus package for the clubs  has been dealt with a big blow as the Executive Director of the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), Kosi Yankey, says Ghanaian Football clubs were not considered to benefit from the package.

The NBSSI has been mandated to take charge of sharing the stimulus package have indicated that Ghanaian clubs were not considered as part of the package.

The government is set to aid distressed organizations following the COVID-19 outbreak with some relief funds from the stimulus package which has been opened for organizations to apply.

According to reports the Ghana FA had written to government to be considered as part of the distressed organizations during this pandemic to benefit from the COVID-19 stimulus package.

“We didn’t factor the sports clubs in Ghana because they are not small business”, Kosi Yankey Executive Director for NBSSI told Atinka FM.

“The thing is, it will help us know what’s going on for us to consider them in our next process but this current package we didn’t factor them in.” She added.

The funds is eligible for companies with over 100 staff according to to reports.
