COVID-19: Professor Mintah opposes football restart

The President of the Ghana Coaches Association, Prof. Joseph Mintah, has shared some good news amidst the COVID-19-related pay cuts and job loses across the world, that coaches in Ghana have not experienced any job losses or pay cuts yet.

Speaking during a Happy FM-led sports forum titled ‘The effect of COVID-19 on football; the perspective of Ghanaian coaches, he said:
‘’No coach has told me that he has lost his job or is experiencing pay cuts. Nobody has written to the association with such complaints.’’

The 2020 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season faced an abrupt hiatus and considering the fact that the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in his last televised address on actions taken against the fight against COVID-19, he didn’t lift the restrictions on sporting activities it is likely that next year could be severely disrupted too, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

COVID-19 wage deferrals and potential salary cuts have hit most countries including Ghana, it, however, looks like, as far as coronavirus-related economic catastrophes go, coaches in Ghana have been spared according to Prof. Joseph Mintah.
