Court orders two-week remand for O'Reilly SHS murder suspect

The final-year student of O’Reilly Senior High School (SHS), accused of stabbing a classmate to death, has been remanded in custody for two weeks by the La District Court. The student, whose identity has not been disclosed, faces a provisional charge of murder.

The court declined to accept his plea and adjourned the case until September 19, 2024, to allow the police conduct further investigations into the incident.

The tragedy struck at O’Reilly Senior High School on September 3 when Edward Borketey Sackey was fatally stabbed by a classmate following a dispute over whose parents were wealthier. In response, the Ghana Education Service (GES) issued a statement on September 4, 2024, expressing deep regret over the incident.

GES has also appealed to the public to avoid speculations and instead allow the investigation to proceed unhindered, as they work to uncover the circumstances surrounding Edward Sackey’s tragic death.
