The Council of State elections are underway to elect representatives across all 16 regions, with a total of 155 candidates.
So far, results from some regions have started trickling in.
In the Northern Region, former Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Muhammad Mumuni, has secured victory. Mumuni, who was the running mate to the late Prof. John Atta Mills in the 2004 presidential election, will now serve as the region’s representative on the advisory body to the President.
In the Western Region, 32-year-old Tarkwa-based businessman Maxwell Boakye emerged victorious. He won the election in the first round, securing 17 out of 28 votes against eight other contenders.
However, the election in the Ashanti Region was disrupted by chaos as thugs invaded the venue, causing confusion. The incident temporarily halted the process as officials worked to restore order.
More results are expected as voting continues across the country.
