Coronavirus Outbreak: Local gov’t ministry to disinfect markets, lorry parks, and others

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is taking action to ensure that markets, lorry parks, and public places are disinfected.

According to Hajia Alima Mahama in a press release, the action is based on the President directive that MLGRD should coordinate the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) measures to ensure conditions of hygiene in markets across the country.

“This project seeks to use professional and innovative methods for the prevention and control of COVID-19 in the sixteen regions of Ghana to disinfect identified areas, provide personal hygiene materials and to create public awareness, “she said.

She added that “The scope of the project shall include but not limited to cover over 1,000 markets, 780 other public places and over 1,000 lorry parks accordingly.

In addition to this, preventive measures such as the provision of sanitizers, Jumbo Tissue, Waste Bins, Veronica Buckets, and mass spraying exercises among others.

The President in his recent statement on the updates and measures to be followed in relation to COVID-19 directed that the Ministry of Local Government should work with the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to ensure that markets across the country observe enhanced hygienic practices.
