Construction on the 64km Ashaiman to Akosombo Junction Road has recommenced after an almost year-long suspension.
This project, part of the Eastern Corridor Road upgrading (Lot 1), encompasses the design and construction of a dual carriageway from Ashaiman Roundabout to Akosombo Junction.
It also includes the building of a flyover at Ashaiman Roundabout, an interchange at Asutsuare Junction, 11 pedestrian footbridges, three river bridges, and various ancillary works, such as drainage structures and walkways.
On his way to the Volta and Oti regions, Minister for Roads and Highways Francis Asenso-Boakye made a brief stop to review the progress of the work.
The contractor is now performing earthworks between Asutsuare Junction and Akuse Junction to expand the road into a dual carriageway. Additional work fronts have also been initiated, including site clearing from Doryumu Junction to Asutsuare Junction.
Initiated in May 2022 with a 30-month timeline set to conclude in November 2024, the project was suspended in July 2023 due to the government’s debt exchange programme.
