Concerned Citizens make 4 demands to Attorney General on Day 1 of #FreeTheCitizens, #SayNoToGalamsey protest

The Concerned Citizens against galamsey has made four demands to the Attorney General in their petition on day 1 of the #FreeTheCitizens, #SayNoToGalamsey protest.

In the petition read after day 1 of the protest in front of the spokesperson of the Office of the Attorney General Isaac Wilberforce Mensah, the protestors demanded for the immediate release of the 54 individuals who have been remanded as a result of their involvement in the demonstration against galamsey.

They also urged the Attorney General to end the prosecution against the protestors who were arrested on the demonstration grounds at the 37 Military Hospital.

“We call for the immediate release of the 54 individuals who have been remanded in police custody for their involvement in the earlier demonstration. We also want the Attorney General to end the prosecution against these protestors.”

They also urged the Attorney General to investigate the arresting officers because the police abused their power.

“Take steps to investigate the police for their abuse of power concerning how they handled the people they arrested on the day of the demonstration.”

The demonstration, which is set to run until October 5, aims to draw attention to ongoing galamsey activities which have and continue to cause devastating damages to the country’s environment and water bodies, and also for the release of their arrested colleague protesters.
