Concern Youth of NDC in Tamale kicks against Sharaf Mahama’s upcoming health walk and screening event

Concerned Youth of the National Democratic Congress in Tamale have registered their displeasure over a health walk and screening event scheduled for 29th June 2024 by Sharaf Mahama, son of NDC Flagbearer and former President, John Dramani Mahama.

According to them, they are increasingly worried about the repetition of a historical pattern where familial connections overshadow and sidestep established party structures.

In a press statement dated 25th June 2024, the youth noted that the recent activities suggest a dangerous prelude to a governance style marred by nepotism and cronyism as evidenced by past administrations where family members of party leaders assumed central roles in governance to the detriment of party unity and public trust and also fear that the involvement of Sharaf Mahama in such a high profile event might signal the beginning of another era where proximity to familial power supplants the rightful function of party structure.

“We call on Mr. Sharaf Mahama and other party leaders to respect the institutional mechanism of the NDC and to refrain from actions that could centralize power within a specific famillial circle. Our party’s strength lies in it’s democratic values and the equitable participation of all members, not in the consolidation of power within select few”.

The Concerned members of NDC urged all Stakeholders to reflect on the implications of such events and work towards preserving the integrity and democratic foundations of the party in order not to pave way for nepotism and cronyism to take root when the party is voted into power in December 2024.
