Former Special prosecutor, Martin Amidu has stated that Dr. Bawumia conceding defeat as incumbent presidential candidate before official declaration of results from Electoral Commission is not the first time in the Fourth Republic.

According to him, the late Former President of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills who was Vice President and presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress did the same during the 2000 runoff election.

He pointed out that the assertion in the general public that Dr. Bawumia is the first Vice President to concede defeat in Ghana’s history is not true.

Dr. Martin Amidu emphasized that the late Pro. Mills conceded defeat willingly to John Agyekum Kufuor on December 29, 2000 before the then chairman of Electoral Commission, Dr. Afari Gyan declared the results on December 30, 2000.
