Out of boredom from the COVID-19 lockdown, Ghanaian music lovers took to Twitter to celebrate the works of Ghanaian musicians and producers.
What seemed like fun later turned to a game of comparison which was seen by many to be in bad taste. The last straw of tolerance was broken when music producers, Appietus and Jay Q were compared to legendary music producer Zapp Mallet.

Speaking to the issue on Happy98.9FM’s ‘Ayekoo After Drive’, dancehall king Shatta Wale disclosed that it was gross disrespect for Ghanaians to even breathe Zapp Mallet’s name in the same space as the duo.
According to him, if Appietus and Jay Q are to be honest, they will admit they learnt from Zapp Mallet.
The musician who could not hide his frustration had this to say, “Zapp will feel insulted being compared to Appietus and Jay Q. Zapp mallet is the senior in these things. He is the finest producer and we all learnt from him. They shouldn’t compare him to anyone.”
Shatta admitting he even learnt to make beats form Zapp Mallet called on the music fraternity to rather organize a concert for him rather than disrespect him in such a manner.
“We should organize a concert for him and all the proceeds should be given to him in recognition for his amazing work,” he declared.

“Opanyin y3 Opanyin oo, no sound engineer should be compared to Zapp Mallet. It is gross disrespect,” Shatta reiterated.
Shatta noted that it’s good to compare but one can only start comparisons with people in the same class. He cited that it will be okay to compare Kidi and Kuami Eugene because they both fall in the same class.
But it was disrespectful to compare Zapp with Appietus and Jay Q though they all produced great sounds.
