The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has called on the general public, stakeholders, and the media to dismiss any reports or statements suggesting that a new producer price for cocoa has been decided.
In an official statement, COCOBOD clarified that such claims are false, emphasizing that the institutional structures and processes needed to determine and approve the producer price are not yet in place.
“The public is advised to disregard any statement or news suggesting a decision or announcement on the producer price of cocoa,” parts of the statement read.
The statement also disclosed why such an announcement should be disregarded stating:
1.There is currently no Board of Directors in place, meaning there is no authority to make or approve such a crucial decision.
2.The Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), which is responsible for reviewing and recommending the producer price, has not yet been convened or informed.
