Coach Kwesi Appiah seals maiden victory with Sudan in International friendly

Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah achieved his first triumph as the head coach of Sudan, leading his team to a hard-fought victory over Chad in a recent international friendly match. Sudan, who had struggled in their previous outings with a four-game winless streak, narrowly secured a 1-0 win against Chad at the King Fahd Stadium in Saudi Arabia.

The decisive goal that sealed the victory for the Desert Hawks came in the 30th minute, marking a significant moment for Appiah’s team, especially after his debut match had ended in a 1-1 draw against Tanzania.

Appointed as Sudan’s head coach earlier this month, the former Black Stars coach has committed to a three-year contract with the primary goal of rejuvenating football in the Northeast African nation. He is supported by fellow Ghanaians, Ignatius Osei Fosu, the former coach of Techiman Eleven Wonders and Dreams FC, and ex-Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda, who has taken on the role of goalkeeper’s trainer.

Sudan has set its sights on World Cup qualification, with crucial qualifiers against Togo and DR Congo scheduled for the next month. While they missed out on the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, set to kick off in January 2024 in Ivory Coast, Sudan remains determined to make a mark in international football under Appiah’s leadership.
