Clubs deserve more than national teams in allocation of FIFA relief fund- Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang

The Communications Director for Legon Cities FC, Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang has raised concerns about the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) allocation of FIFA’s relief fund to the various national teams.

The GFA has allocated some monies from the fund to some quarters which has been highly opposed by some club administrators and owners.

Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang in his view questioned why monies be allocated to the various national teams as they are not distressed at the moment juxtaposing it with clubs that continue to pay salaries of players and other administrative costs whilst football is suspended.

“Which of the national teams is in distress that they will need $300,000 at the moment comparing it to the clubs”, he told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports on Happy 98.9FM

“They (national teams) have no qualifiers or competitions coming up so why allocate this money. It’s weird and ambiguous by the explanations they are giving to the allocation of money to the national teams.

“If the league has been cancelled what are we managing now. This money is for stakeholders who are distressed.

He added that it’s the clubs that have been adversely affected by the pandemic thus the reason they need more support from the FA

“From February till now we haven’t been able to generate money and we are still paying players till now the same applies to the clubs. That is what we call adversely affected”.

Meanwhile General Secretary of the GFA, Prosper Harrison Addo has also justified why those monies where allocated to the national teams.

“The monies allocated to the national teams is because the GFA has some camping cost it takes care of. The monies allocated to the national team will be used to pay for feeding, accommodation and also for tournaments when national team duties resumes”.

The GFA is expected to meet the elite clubs today to discuss the allocation of the monies which has raised heated arguments among the football circles.
