CK Akunnor to drag GFA to CAS over unpaid salaries

Former Black Stars coach, Charles Kwabla Akunnor is set to drag the Ghana Football Association to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) over his unpaid salaries, bonuses and compensation after his sacking, according to his lawyer.

The former Ghana captain was sacked by the GFA last year after the Black Stars defeat against South Africa in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Akunnor who had five months to the expiration of his 2-year contract had only been paid 9 months despite working for 17 months.

According to the lawyer, his client CK Akunnor is yet to receive his compensation package despite several meetings with the Ghana Football Association and Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“Since they terminated the contract in an unlawful manner in October 2021, we have waited patiently for the compensation to be paid but there hasn’t been a response. We believe because since he is a Ghanaian they don’t want to pay the money. Those who were not Ghanaians have been paid and why not CK Akunnor’, he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Wamputu Sports.

He stated that Akunnor negotiated with the GFA and Sports Ministry over a payment plan which is yet to be implemented.

His team have given the GFA, Sports Ministry up to a week to respond or drag them to FIFA.
