Black Stars coach, Charles Kwabla Akonnor, says his side lost the game from the midfield in the second half.
Akonnor’s side succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to South Africa in the second group game of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers at the FnB Stadium in Johannesburg.
Bongokuhle Hlongwane scored in the 83rd minute to send the Bafana Bafana to top of Group G with four points in the World Cup qualifiers.
Akonnor in an interview after the game disclosed that the team’s second-half performance cost them a 1-0 defeat to South Africa.
“Well, we started very well in the first half tactically we were very disciplined. It went the way we want it and we were not clinical upfront, that’s the problem. But I was satisfied with the way we played in terms of controlling the game.” Akonnor told reporters in South Africa after the game
“In the second half, we somehow lost the midfield in terms of how we want to play because we believed that we could win the game.”
“We did one or two substitutions, which really went the other way round and we kept dropping and dropping.”
