CHRAJ criticizes Lydia Alhassan for distributing food to voters

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has criticized the distribution of food by Ayawaso West Wuogon MP Lydia Seyram Alhassan during the special voting exercise on Monday, December 2, 2024.

Initially denying the act, Lydia Alhassan later defended her actions after a video surfaced showing her and her constituency women’s organizer handing out food to voters at the Legon Police Station polling center.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Tuesday, CHRAJ Commissioner Dr. Joseph Whittal condemned the MP’s actions, describing them as unethical and corrupt.

He stated that it is improper to provide food, money, or any form of inducement to individuals in a voting queue. Such actions he said raise serious concerns about corruption and integrity.
