The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his commitment to working diligently and be accountable to Ghanaians, bearing in mind the possibility of seeking another mandate in the future.
Addressing a community gathering at Adabokrom in the Bia East District of the Western North Region on Monday, September 30, 2024, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that former President John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), would not have the same level of accountability if re-elected because he would be serving a final term.
Dr. Bawumia noted that in previous elections, the NDC campaigned on Mr. Mahama’s northern roots, urging northerners to vote for him. Dr. Bawumia in explaining the edge he has over his main opponent said he is also a northerner and could serve the people of Ghana for two terms compared to Mr. Mahama’s one term. However, he highlighted that he, too, is a northerner but could serve for two terms, unlike Mr. Mahama’s one term. He urged voters who want a northern president to choose him as the better alternative.
According to Dr. Bawumia, although he has not yet been president, his record as vice president speaks for itself. He claimed that, since independence, no vice president has performed better than he has, with the nation witnessing the impact of his policies. This, according to him, indicates that he has outgrown the vice presidency and is ready to assume the role of president.
Dr. Bawumia assured voters that electing him would mean getting a “brand-new, tear-rubber president” with fresh ideas, vision and solutions, whereas re-electing former President Mahama would result in a “second-hand president.”
