China has maintained its position as Ghana’s largest import source in 2023, with imports totaling GHC 33.9 billion, an increase from GHC 26.4 billion in 2022. This data is from the Ghana 2023 Trade Report published by the Ghana Statistical Service.The Trade Report indicates that China held a 22.5% share of Ghana’s imports last year, a slight decline from 23.2% in 2022. The Russian Federation has become a significant contributor, replacing the United Kingdom in the top five, with imports mainly comprising mineral fuels and oils.The Netherlands continued to be a key player, with Ghana importing mineral fuels and oils worth GHC 17.3 billion. India and the United States swapped rankings, with India becoming the fourth-largest import source at GHC 11.7 billion, while the USA secured the fifth position with imports valued at GHC 10.9 billion.Ten products made up over a third of all imports. Diesel-automotive gas oil had the highest import value at GHC 27.1 billion, followed by light oils, motor spirit, and super at GHC 22.3 billion. Concerning the mode of transport for imports last year, sea transport comprised 89.1 percent of the total import value, road transport accounted for 6.1 percent, and air transport had the smallest share at 4.7 percent.
