The Chief of Staff, Frema Osei-Opare, urged Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of tree planting, as she planted a commemorative tree on Green Ghana Day.
The event, held at the forecourt of Aggrey Chapel at Achimota School in Accra, aimed to promote conscious efforts to restore Ghana’s forests.
Delivering the keynote address, Mrs. Osei-Opare emphasized the significance of the Green Ghana Day Project, initiated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2021. She expressed gratitude to the President for this initiative, which will help combat deforestation in the long run. She stressed the need to continue planting trees beyond the Green Ghana Day celebration.
“I will take this opportunity to express my gratitude to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for initiating the Green Ghana project, which will help combat deforestation in Ghana in the long run. While we mark Green Ghana Day it’s essential to continue planting trees beyond this day,” she said.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including the Municipal Chief Executive of Okaikwei North, Achimota District Court Judge His Lordship Prince Osei Owusu,the Headmaster of Achimota School Mr Graham Ebenezer, Wendy Malm of Ghana Commodities Exchange and Forestry Commission Officers.
The Chief of Staff led the tree planting ceremony, followed by other officials and participants. Various species of plants, including tree of life and mahogany, were planted.
