Chief Imam must be awarded a Nobel peace prize – Ken Agyapong

Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is advocating for the award of a Nobel peace prize to the National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Nuhu Sharabatu for his exemplary works.

The spiritual head of Muslims in Ghana has been living a life worthy of emulation and hence ought to be acknowledged intentionally.

Sheikh Sharabutu during the celebration of his 100th birthday visited the Christ the King Church in Accra to fellowship with them.

Pictures of him sitting quietly in the pews during an Easter Service went viral on social media.

Not everyone was happy – some critics condemned his actions as an abomination, for a Muslim to participate in Christian worship.

But Sheikh Sharubutu insisted he was not worshipping but moving the relationship between Muslims and Christians from mere tolerance to engagement.

In an interview, Ken Agyapong said that single act by the Chief Imam speaks volumes of his peaceful nature.

He added that the Muslim Leader has shown how fantastic he is as a man of peace and hence ought to be celebrated.

This, he said, must be commended especially at a time when Christians are fighting Muslims across the globe.

“He is a fantastic man; he’s set the standard very high and ought to be celebrated…he has set the standard very high and anyone who comes after him will be judged by that…,” he added.
