Ghana’s World Cup qualifying squad suffered a blow as eight players were ruled out due to injury for their upcoming matches against Mali and the Central African Republic.
Among those missing are Athletic Bilbao’s forward Inaki Williams, in-form midfielder Majeed Ashimeru of Anderlecht, and veteran Daniel-Kofi Kyereh. Iddrisu Baba, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Painstil, Nathaniel Adjei, and Dennis Odoi also join the absentee list. All these players are recovering from either surgery or injuries.
Head coach Otto Addo has opted for fresh faces to fill the gaps. New call ups like Brandon Thomas-Asante and Cagliari’s Ibrahim Sulemana made the team for the first time.
The Black Stars will kick off preparations on Thursday, May 30th at the Legon Sports Stadium. Their journey begins with a trip to Bamako for the Mali clash on June 7th, followed by a home game against the Central African Republic on June 10th in Kumasi.
Ghana, a four-time African champion, is aiming for a World Cup comeback after a disappointing performance in Qatar 2022.
