The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has advised the Ghana Education Service (GES) to postpone the January 3rd school reopening due to outstanding debt owed by government.
In letters dated August 12, November 13, and December 20, 2024, CHASS leadership urged the government to settle outstanding payments for perishables, recurrent fees, and transportation costs for food deliveries.
CHASS also plans to notify parents and guardians through its regional branches and school Parent Associations (PAs) about the possible delay in reopening schools.
In the letter, CHASS explained that its recommendation to delay the reopening of schools followed repeated but unanswered appeals to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
