Editor of The Hawk Newspaper, Charles McCarthy has taken the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to task for holding a press engagement a week after launching their manifesto.
He questioned why the party felt the need to clarify their manifesto days after its launch, especially considering the extensive media coverage the event received in Takoradi, Western Region.
“Which media house didn’t cover the manifesto launch in Takoradi? How could they not fully explain their positions during the launch, only to call another press briefing a week later to clarify their stance?” McCarthy questioned.
He suggested that the NPP’s decision to hold such a large-scale follow-up event was more about flaunting their financial resources than addressing any genuine communication issues.
He noted that if they weren’t flush with cash and wasting it, why would they organize such a grand event on a Saturday and then call over two hundred journalists across the country the following Sunday.
In an interview with Kwadwo Safah-Danquah on the Happy Morning Show on Monday, August 26, 2024, McCarthy contrasted the NPP’s recent actions with those of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressing surprise at the NDC’s transformation.
He noted that the NDC, once perceived as a party prone to violence, now operates with the decorum of established political groups like the U.S. Congress or Democrats.
He said the NPP, once known for its elitism, now appears to be adopting the NDC’s former tendencies, while the NDC seems to be taking on the NPP’s former mantle.
Comparing recent events, including the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi and the NDC’s in Winneba, as well as other key events in Tamale and Kumasi, Mr. McCarthy emphasized that the NDC is increasingly outshining the NPP in terms of organization, branding, and messaging.
He urged NPP leaders to act with integrity and focus on serving the party and country rather than personal enrichment.
