The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been directed to end its collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) following the United States’ withdrawal from the global health body effective immediately.

CDC, a key supporter of the WHO, has contributed substantial funding described by former President Donald Trump as excessive.

“So we paid $500 million to World Health (Organization) when I was here, and I terminated it. China, with 1.4 billion people, was paying $39 million. We have about 325 million, but we were paying $500 million. It seemed a little unfair to me,” Trump stated.

Experts warn that this move could hinder efforts to investigate and contain outbreaks such as the Marburg virus and mpox in Africa, along with other potential global health threats.

Meanwhile reports indicate that exiting the WHO requires Congressional approval and a one-year notice period.
