CAS: King Faisal FC’s case dismissed

Tamale City is guilty, the FA Disciplinary Committee should act - King Faisal’s Alhaji Grusah

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has turned down King Faisal FC’s plea for a temporary halt to their relegation by the Ghana Football Association.

The club, based in Kumasi, resorted to CAS after their demotion from the top-tier Ghanaian league last season due to a dispute involving player Jireh Kojo Nissi/Isaac Mensah and alleged double registration with Tamale City FC.

Despite the Ghana FA acknowledging that Jireh Kojo Nissi and Isaac Mensah are indeed the same person, King Faisal’s appeal to the FA’s Appeal Committee was also denied.

King Faisal had hoped for a suspension of their relegation, enabling their participation in the 2023-24 Ghana Premier League until a final verdict was reached.

However, CAS, in a circular dated September 27, 2023, has rejected King Faisal’s request for a suspension, leaving their relegation intact until the final decision is made in the main case. The financial implications of this decision will be clarified in the eventual award or any subsequent arbitration outcomes.

Currently, King Faisal is gearing up for the upcoming 2023-24 Division One season, set to commence next month.
