Awal Suleman, has apologized for coming onto the pitch in Ghana’s game against South Africa in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played on Thursday November 14, 2019 at the Cape Coast Stadium.

The Black Stars won the game by 2-1 with goals from Thomas Partey and Kudus Mohammed.

The 25-year old was spotted on the pitch in the 74th minute and was immediately arrested after the incident.

He was in Police custody for two days at the University of Cape Coast Police Station.

He was granted bail on Saturday following an intervention by officials of the Ghana Football Association led by Central Regional Football Association chairman Robert Duncan.

In an interview he said, “When the goals came I was so happy and when I realized I was on the pitch. I wanted to take a selfie with Thomas Partey.

“I accept my fault and I apologize for my action. I wished I wasn’t even close to the pitch. I am not going to do that again. I will advise that nobody invades the pitch like what I did because it is unlawful. It won’t happen again, Ghanaians should forgive me”, he concluded.

Suleman after his release on Saturday received a hero’s welcome from friends and family where he was paraded in the streets of Cape Coast.
