CAF’s Approval of Accra Sports Stadium a relief for Ghana – MOYS Executive Assistant, Jamaludeen Abdullah

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has expressed relief following the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) approval of the Accra Sports Stadium for international matches.

This decision comes after the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was stripped of its license due to issues that arose following Ghana’s defeat to Angola in a recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The approval of the Accra Sports Stadium is a crucial development for Ghana, as it faced the prospect of playing home matches outside the country for the first time. The ministry had to quickly work on renovating both the Accra and Cape Coast Sports Stadia to ensure that Ghana had suitable venues for international matches.

Jamaludeen Abdullah, Executive Assistant at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in an interview on Happy Sports highlighted the significance of the approval, stating that it was “good news” for Ghana. He emphasized the need to mobilize supporters to attend the matches and create a positive atmosphere for the Black Stars.

Ghana’s national team conducted their first training session at the Accra Sports Stadium ahead of their upcoming doubleheader against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The team is aiming to bounce back from their recent defeat to Angola and draw against Niger.
