CAF Confed Cup: AshGold, Salitas FC share spoils in first leg

Ashantigold SC failed to make the most of their home advantage count in their CAF Confederation Cup first leg clash with Burkina Faso team Salitas FC on Sunday.

The Yellow and Blacks welcomed their neighbors to the Len Clay Stadium for their preliminary first game in the 2020-21 CAF Confederation Cup competition.

First shot at goal went in the Miners favour when striker Hans Kwofie’s effort went just inches wide of the goal post in the eighth minute mark.

The visitors came close to scoring the opening goal when they struck the post on the 39th but Ashantigold defended the rebound well to put the ball behind for goal kick.

Back from recess, the Miners continued pressuring the opposition but could not find their way past the solid defense of Salitas FC who were determined to return home win at least a draw.

Later on in the game, the hosts defender and former Asante Kotoko player, Osei Agyemang was seriously injured and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment instantly.

The hosts best chance in the second half fell to David Abagna following a free kick from Appiah McCarthy but the former Wa All Stars man header was way over the top of the goal.

The game finished goalless at the Len Clay Stadium and the Miners will return for the second leg without any advantage next weekend and would have to get a better results in Burkina to progress.
