President for Sky Power FC, Wilson Arthur, says Ghanaian clubs should focus on building a good team in order to attract sponsors.
According to the football administrator, the current mentality of Ghanaian clubs which is solely focused on developing and selling players is one of the reasons that has hindered them from getting sponsors and also discouraged fans to troop to their venues to watch them play on match days.
Speaking in an interview with Ghana’s number one Sports Station Happy 98.9FM, he said, “If you want to run a team you must focus on building a winning squad which can attract sponsors. Clubs were able to attract sponsors in the past because they had quality players in their set up”, he told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy 98.9FM
He mentioned that in the past fans were interested in watching games at the stadium because of the high caliber of players who played for the various teams at the time.
The MTN FA Cup chairman also advised clubs to find other means of generating revenue apart from gate proceeds
“If you target gate proceeds then you have a problem. Ghanaian Clubs don’t get anything from gate proceeds so they must concerntrate on building good teams and also recruiting players from their location is very vital”, he added.
Wilson Arthur’s Sky Power FC were on top of the Division One League Zone Two before the league was truncated.
