
A tragic road accident on Wednesday April 9, on the Circle Ringway stretch, has caused chaos and severe traffic disruptions in the capital.
According to eyewitnesses, a pickup truck loaded with cement blocks and bearing registration number GX-3456-21 was descending the overhead from Awudome when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The speeding truck crashed into several vehicles along the busy stretch, leaving over ten cars badly damaged.
Several people sustained injuries, with at least two individuals reported to be in critical condition. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals by bystanders and emergency responders.
Witnesses on the scene claim the driver of the pickup fled immediately after the crash and had not been located at the time of filing this report. Police officers arrived on the scene shortly after but did not offer any immediate comment.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but investigations are expected to commence into the cause of the accident and the whereabouts of the runaway driver.
Motorists are being directed by the Ghana Police Service to use alternative routes as traffic remains heavy in the area.
