The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially severed ties with head coach Chris Hughton and disbanded the entire technical team of the Black Stars following their disappointing exit from the ongoing AFCON 2024 group stage.
Ghana’s lackluster performance saw them finish in a disappointing 3rd place in Group B, managing only two draws against Egypt and Mozambique while suffering a humiliating defeat in their opening match against Cape Verde.
The abrupt exit from the tournament has left many fans and pundits labeling it as an embarrassment for the national team.
A statement from the Executive Committee of the Ghana FA confirmed the decision to part ways with Chris Hughton and dismantle the technical staff.
The statement read;
“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect.
The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.
The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars.”
