The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has commended its personnel from the Anglogold, Obuasi, and Fomena Fire Stations for their tactical approach in bringing the fire at the Bogobiri garage near the stadium junction in Obuasi under control.

“Thanks to the tactical approach deployed by firefighting teams from Anglogold, Obuasi, and Fomena Fire Stations, the inferno at the Bogobiri garage near the stadium junction in Obuasi has been brought under control”, they stated.

In a statement, the GNFS confirmed Firefighters have successfully managed the blaze, which affected five structures comprising three metal containers and two sandcrete buildings. Overhaul operations are currently underway to extinguish any remaining pockets of fire.

“Overhaul operations are currently underway to extinguish any remaining pockets of fire within the affected five (5) structures made up of 3 metal containers and 2 sandcrete buildings”, part of the statement reads.

Tragically, one person has been confirmed dead, while seven others with severe injuries are receiving treatment at hospitals in Obuasi and Kumasi.

“Unfortunately, one (1) victim has reported, and seven (7) others who sustained severe injuries have been hospitalized in Obuasi and Kumasi”, they stated.

The GNFS has assured the public that investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, with more details to be shared soon. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and prioritize safety.
