The Ashanti Regional chairman of Co-operative Transport Union, Isaac Kwabena Boateng has said drivers should blame national leaders of Ghana Private and Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other transport unions executives if their plight for reduction of fuel prices were not heard.
According to him, drivers have selected these leaders to be the intermediary between them and the government, hence the leaders were supposed to send their grievances to the government for them to be addressed.
He made this known in a telephone conversation on Happy 89.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show hosted by Don Kwabena Prah when he said,
“We can’t do anything if the national leaders of GPRTU haven’t given us the mandate to take action. The leaders are our spokesmen therefore if we have not received any responses concerning the increment of fuel then we should blame them.”
He further stated that, any executive who would take action without informing the national chairman of GPRTU stands the chance of losing his position in the Union thereby preventing drivers at the regional level from taking action.
Kwabena Boateng explained that drivers from Kumasi will not tie any red band on their cars as well as go on strike if they do not receive any communique from the national headquarters.
Isaac added that he prefers the prices of fares be increased by 20 percent instead of the strike drivers wants to embark on.
