Embattled Ghanaian boxer, Richard Harrison Nortey, says the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) should be blamed for the country’s inability to produce world champions in recent times.
According to him, the current GBA leadership has nothing to offer boxers in the country, labeling them as an institution that has failed to even take care of its legends despite the numerous amount of monies received from boxing bouts over the years.
“We always pay a percentage of our purse to the GBA all these years. From the time of DK Poison till now what has the GBA used those monies for”, he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Happy Sports on Happy 98.9FM.
“I cry for the boxers who are coming up because these current GBA cannot help us to win any world title. Go to the GBA and see the people over there. When you are literate and they try to take you for granted but some of us will not allow it”, he added.
Harrison Nortey is currently facing a five-year ban following a criminal act stated by the GBA General Secretary Peter Johnson.
In a statement from the GBA General Secretary Peter Johnson, the boxer forged his signature and used the letterhead of the authority for a boxing bout without their authorization which led to the ban.
The boxer also alleged that his management Cubic Promotions are in bed with the GBA leading to his ban.
