Abubakari Damba former goalkeeper of the senior national team, has expressed optimism that the Black Stars of Ghana can salvage their pride after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Mexico at the Bank of America Stadium over the weekend.
The loss, which marked head coach Chris Hughton’s first defeat in six matches since taking charge, was a setback for the team.
In an interview with Happy FM, the veteran goalkeeper, Damba, emphasized the need to assess the team’s overall performance, cautioning against hasty conclusions and criticism. He acknowledged that Chris Hughton requires time to implement his strategies, but the Ghanaian supporters are eager for positive results. Damba stated, “I believe that, with time, the team will begin to achieve the results everyone is anticipating.”
After their loss to Mexico, the Black Stars are now focused on their upcoming match against the USA, scheduled for October 18.
Despite the absence of key players such as Celta Vigo’s Joseph Aidoo due to injury, the addition of Medeama SC’s Fatawu Hamidu is expected to bolster the team’s defensive strength.
