Black Stars arrive in South Africa with 26-man squad for World Cup qualifier

Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has arrived in Johannesburg with a 26-man squad to South Africa in their second group game in the World Cup qualifiers.

The four-time Africa Cup of Nations rulers commenced their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers campaign on a convincing note after pipping Ethiopia in the opening fixture at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Friday night.

The team travelled without the English and German-based nationals because South Africa is placed on the COVID-19 red list of the aforementioned countries since they will have to isolate for 10 days when they return to their respective clubs.

The players left out due to Coronavirus traveling restrictions were Daniel Amartey, Jordan Ayew, Jeffrey Schlupp, Andy Yiadom, Baba Rahman, Braydon Manu and Daniel Kofi Kyereh.

The team traveled by a chartered flight and will lodge at the Hotel de Sky View in the City of Santon.

South Africa will host Ghana in match-day two of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the iconic FNB Stadium on Monday, 6th September 2021.
