Spokesperson for FIFA/CAF liaison team, Dan Kweku Yeboah, has insisted that the Black Princesses will participate in the forthcoming FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in France despite their ill-preparation ahead of the competition.
Football activities in the country have been halted after the Attorney General (AG) placed an interlocutory injunction on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the investigative piece by ace journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on corruption in Ghana Football.
Several advocates of football believe the nation should shelve the Women’s World Cup due to the short-timed preparation ahead of the competition.
However, speaking to Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Dan Kweku Yeboah, who is the scribe for the two-man liaison team which is made up of Dr. Kofi Amoah and Francis Oti Akenteng, insisted that they are going about the rules set by the world’s football governing body hence the Black Princesses will honour the tournament.
“FIFA made it clear to government that it is in their interest for football to continue in Ghana that’s why FIFA didn’t use the long term process but rather established a liaison team. We agree that the girls are not getting the needed preparation for the tournament but we shouldn’t forget what happened in Libya in 1982. Nobody thought Ghana would lift the cup because we didn’t prepare but we won the trophy.”
“The liaison team chairman, Dr. Kofi Amoah wants us to concentrate on our football affairs and leave the court case to the AG,” Mr. Yeboah deduced.
The 2018 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup will run from 5-24 August.
