Black Meteors receive qualification bonus for Algeria game

U-23 AFCON: Ghana, South Africa battle for final Olympic slot in third place game

Happy Sports has learnt that the Sports Ministry has paid the outstanding bonuses owed to the Black Meteors team as they arrived in Ghana on Saturday from the U-23 Cup of Nations.

The bonuses paid to the technical team and the players according to our source was the qualification bonus for the Algeria game which saw the Black Meteors qualify to the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

The qualification bonus was paid to only the players that took part during the qualifiers.

Ibrahim Tanko missed about nine key players from the qualifiers ahead of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations as their clubs were unwilling to release them for the tournament.

Ghana failed to qualify to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Football tournament after finishing fourth in the just ended competition.

The Black Meteors were denied twice as they lost to Côte d’Ivoire and South Africa in the tournament.

Ghana lost on penalties to South Africa in the third place game to deny them the ticket to the Olympic Games.
