MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

Ace political host, Kwame Sefa-Kayi has resigned from the membership of the Marketing and Promotion committee of the Normalisation Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

Mr. Sefa-Kayi was appointed as the member of the Marketing and Promotion committee by the Normalisation Committee, however categorically rejected the appointment emphasizing that his approval was not considered before the inauguration.

In a letter written to the Normalisation Committee, Kwame Sefa Kayi said, “Sorry to burst your bubble; regretfully I have to decline membership of this committee.”

“First of all I wasn’t consulted in any way. I received a text message from Issah on Monday the 14th of January telling me about my nomination and a subsequent meeting the following day, he (Issah) didn’t mention an inauguration; he said however, that he’d been trying to reach me for almost a week,” he narrated.

He continued “I replied the following day when I saw the message and told him I was out of town so couldn’t attend; I arrived in Accra on Tuesday evening only to receive congratulatory messages when I turned my phone on: I’m taken aback that for such an important assignment, my approval or otherwise wasn’t discussed with me yet my name was put out there.”

“Secondly, I believe there are more knowledgeable and competent people in the field of sports and football journalism who when given the opportunity, can make more meaningful contributions to the way forward for the beautiful game. Kindly accept my apologies, thank you very much,” he ended.

The award-winning media personality becomes the second appointee to reject the duty in less than a week after lawyer Ntow Fianko, who claimed he would have rejected it even if the Committee had informed of his appointment earlier.
