Micheal Osei, the head coach of Bibiani Gold Stars in the Ghana Premier League, stood his ground and remained unfazed by the absence of Abednego Tetteh, their top scorer from the previous season, following their recent defeat to Berekum Chelsea in the opening fixture of the 2023-24 season. Despite the setback, Osei expressed confidence in his team’s ability to adapt and perform well even without Tetteh.

Last weekend, the Golden City Park bore witness to an intense clash between Bibiani Gold Stars and Berekum Chelsea, with the latter emerging victorious with a 2-0 scoreline. This triumph was chiefly orchestrated by Stephen Amankona, whose brace secured an emphatic win for Ennin’s squad. Surprisingly, the first half ended goalless, with both teams struggling to find the back of the net.

One notable absence from the Gold Stars’ lineup was Abednego Tetteh, who had recently made headlines for his retirement from the Ghana Premier League. This decision came in the wake of his consistent exclusion from the senior national team, the Black Stars. Tetteh’s departure left many questioning whether the team could maintain its performance without their prolific forward.

In an interview on Happy FM, Coach Osei acknowledged Abednego Tetteh’s significance to the team in the previous season. Still, he made it clear that the squad was not solely built around one player. He stressed the importance of teamwork and collective effort in achieving success in the league. Osei’s statement aimed to reassure fans and the football community that Bibiani Gold Stars remained a formidable force in the Ghana Premier League, even in Tetteh’s absence.

As the league progresses, all eyes will be on Bibiani Gold Stars to see if they can live up to their coach’s confident assertions and maintain their competitive edge. They will host Asante Kotoko on Friday 22nd September in a crunchy match week 2 fixture.
