Bernard Nii Anyaa Brown has won the Ablekuma South Constituency primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He beat Samuel Sarbah Lartey to set up a showdown with former Accra mayor Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije in the 2020 elections.

The NPP held parliamentary primaries in ‘orphan’ constituencies on Saturday, September 28 in good time for the 2020 elections.

‘Orphan’ constituencies are those whose seats are held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The party has scheduled January, 2020 to hold primaries for its main seats.

Mr Anyaa Brown, who is an administrator with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), polled 347 votes out of a total of 624 votes to beat Mr Lartey.

Mr Lartey polled 273 votes. There were a total of four rejected ballots.

There was drama during the primaries as a delegate collapsed and pronounced dead at the hospital after casting his vote.

‘Trouble for Oko Vanderpuije!’

The 42-year-old winner said the number of delegates who came out to vote is an indication that the party is becoming attractive in the constituency.

“The presence of our party people strictly indicates that the party is becoming attractive and a lot more people are joining.

“So, Oko Vanderpuije is in for trouble, so he should watch out.”
