Member of Parliament for Pru East and former Minister for Power, Dr. Kwabena Donkor has revealed that his dedication to public service has come at a significant personal cost. In an interview with Bismark Brown on Happy 98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben on Monday, July 29, Dr. Donkor stated that he has become poorer as a result of his commitment to serving Ghana as a Member of Parliament.

He attributed his financial status to the numerous lucrative offers he has rejected in order to focus on his work as a public servant. Dr. Donkor cited an example from his tenure as Deputy Minister of Energy in charge of Petroleum under the late President John Evans Atta Mills’ government, where he was offered a position as country representative of an oil company in charge of West Africa for a salary of $30,000 per month.

He turned down the offer, prioritizing his service to the nation over personal financial gain. Dr. Donkor emphasized that his experience is a testament to the fact that being a dedicated Member of Parliament can come at a significant personal cost, leading to a decrease in one’s financial well-being.
