Ban on chicken and rice import is not absolute – Agric Ministry clarifies

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has revealed the scope of the plan to ban chicken and rice importation to Ghana in the next three years.

The Press Secretary to the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr.Ridwan Issah Alhassan disclosed to the host of Happy FM’s “Epa Hoa Daben” show that “there is not going to be a total ban. What the Government seeks to put in place are policies that will create quality and affordability of the local market whilst deterring private investors from importing more”.

He added that the Government was committed to providing an enabling environment that will encourage the production of the best quality local rice and the rearing of healthy poultry for food.

The Government of Ghana plans to ban the importation of rice and chicken in the next three years whilst promoting the planting for foods and jobs programme through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
