Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin today ordered Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso constituency Dr. Kwaku Afriyie out of the chamber.
The Speaker’s actions follow remarks made by the MP, which the speaker considers as rude.

During proceedings on Monday 22nd July /2024 the Speaker was delivering a message from President Akufo Addo which sought Parliament to consider the approval of two Supreme court Justices. Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah and Justice Richard Frimpong Oppong.

The Speaker after presenting the message from the President referred the nominees to the appointments committee. He further stated that, after the house resumes from recess members will consider the report from the appointments committee to look at the full compliment of the supreme court to decide on the number of Judges a supreme court should have.

According to Bagbin, he was not aware of any full complement, hence the house is being called on to look at the issue of a full complement of the Supreme Court.

Rising to his feet after the speaker had read the letter to the house, Dr. Afriyie emphatically stated that the preliminary remarks about the judiciary does not lie with the speaker to remind them.

“ With due respect to your chair, this preliminary remarks you’re making about the judiciary, and I believe that as a representative of the good people of Sefwi Wiawso it doesn’t lie in your mouth to remind us of the things that you said” he lamented

However the Speaker rebated saying that it was a rude remark made by the MP .
“This is a completely rude remarks and I can send you out because it lies in my authority to do so” Bagbin said

“You represent the people of Sefwi Wiawso I represent the whole country, marshal take him out of the house I will not integrate such disrespect!”He ordered

Moments after the brouhaha between the Speaker and the Juaboso MP the Majority Chief Whip Frank Annor Dompreh apologize on behalf of the majority caucus to the Speaker and described the incident as unfortunate.
