The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has clarified that the House will not reconvene before the December elections. This statement follows an appeal by the Majority Caucus for an emergency session to address urgent government matters.
In a letter dated November 22, 2024, signed by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the caucus suggested November 28 and 29 as possible dates for the session. However, the Speaker insisted that parliamentary activities would remain suspended until after the elections.
In a memo to the Majority Caucus dated Tuesday, November 26, Bagbin emphasized that the House would resume sitting post-election to finalize critical matters and ensure a smooth transition to the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
He also reminded Afenyo-Markin that the parliamentary calendar accommodates election campaign periods.
