Communications Director of Baby Jet Promotions Randy Afriyie has expounded on the decision by IBO Championships Committee to strip Emmanuel Tagoe off his IBO Lightweight belt.
News went widespread on Tuesday that Emmanuel Tagoe has been stripped off his IBO lightweight belt after failure to comply with the body’s rules.
According to the report, Tagoe was mandated by IBO to defend his belt against mandatory challenger Fedor Papazov not later than June 17th, but the James Town native failed to comply with the body’s order.
However, the IBO Championships Committee has no other option than to take the title away from Tagoe.
“Papazov winning the mandatory challenger give way for us to vacate the title for next challenger,” Mr Afriyie told Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports
“The time given to us has elapse so game boy who’s the holder of the title must vacate for the mandatory challenger to receive the challenge.”
“We have received an official letter asking us to give up the title for Papazov to challenge since game boy is not ready to challenge.”
“We are looking at the monetary aspect of game. We have a new partnership to help promote him internationally.”
“We want to move game boy to USA for better promotion to attain next height in boxing.”
Tagoe won the IBO belt in December 2016 after claiming a one-sided unanimous decision win over Mzonke Fana.
He made his first defense of his belt January this year – he stopped Argentina’s Fernando Saucedo.
