Baba Yara Sports Stadium closed down for renovation till 6 March- NSA boss

Director General for the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi has confirmed the closure of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium ahead of the 6 March Independence Day celebration.

The NSA released a statement announcing the temporal closure of the facility to allow renovation works to be carried out.

“This is to officially inform users of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for both football and athletics purpose of the temporal closure of the stadium with effect from Monday 17th February, 2020.

“This is to enable the Youth and Sports Ministry and the National Sports Authority have ample uninterrupted time to fix critical places of the stadium before the celebration of Ghana’s 63rd Independence Anniversary celebration”,the statement indicated.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM, Professor Peter Twumasi said, “We have already informed the public that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be renovated.
For now the procurement and procedures have all arrived and the contractor must move to the site to begin work”.

“The Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be used for the Independence Day celebration thus the need to close down the venue for the celebration”.

“Due to the works been carried out, the stadium will be closed till 6 March.
After 6 March the stadium will be opened for use”, he stated.

The Director General also indicated that the clubs that use the venue will be notified of the closure.

“We will sit down with the clubs and find alternatives for them on where they will play”.
